What we do and Why we do it

About Us

Welcome to Glenover House. We are a specialist step-down facility for young people aged 18+ who are leaving local authority care. We provide structured support, guidance and training to assist care-experienced young adults in making a safe and sustainable transition into independent living.

Based in a convenient location in Pembrokeshire’s county town of Haverfordwest, our site offers attractive accommodation set in its own private grounds, which is within easy walking distance of all the town’s amenities, including shops, rail and bus stations, leisure centre, cinema, library etc.

On-site Glenover House has 10 private rooms for care leavers, three bath/shower rooms, 3 kitchens, a communal common room and access to our on-site training/classrooms and activity hall for social events and community activities. The grounds offer opportunities for sport, gardening or simply rest and relaxation. Strategically placed away from the main buildings are two Independent living units where our young people can experience independent living with the fallback position of support should it be required. Our final progression step before leaving Glenover House, these units provide excellent practice for real-world living and offer reassurance and act as a huge confidence boost to leavers.

What we do

Our focus is not on personal care, but on support, skills development and education/training opportunities. We help each individual to build the confidence, resilience and practical skills required to live independently in the community. Our aim is:-

• To provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for young people transitioning from care.

• To offer individualised and bespoke Independence Skills Plans, co-produced with each service user.

• To enable young people to access education, training, and employment opportunities.

• To build life skills, including budgeting, cooking, tenancy management, self-care routines, health management, and community participation.

• To assess readiness for independent living using our on-site independent unit.

• To support positive move-on into secure housing and sustainable futures.

• To continue supporting young people beyond their time with us via our Alumni Initiative – Moving On and Giving Back

All of these programs are built by experts and are research-based. Our staff are extensively  trained to deliver these, or if appropriate, we outsource and work in partnership to ensure the highest quality of support.

Our People/Community

We recognise our staff are our most valuable asset and as such are committed to offering quality training programmes including internships, fast track career pathways, apprenticeships and graduate programmes. With our background in education and training our focus is always on upskilling both staff and service users. Our team is made up of people with experience in teaching – we can offer access to formal qualifications through our sister organisation in Cardiff,

Occupational Therapists – skilling up is often about finding practical ways for individuals to address difficulties they experience in physical tasks.

IT Specialists – in a world of increasing technological complexities, we have people who support training in everything from creating a manageable daily planner to writing a CV to installing a doorbell camera. All staff at Glenover House have undergone comprehensive training in supporting individuals with mental health issues, offering emotional support, bereavement counselling, and general living skills, including cooking, housekeeping, budgeting, and health and well-being. Although Glenover Hoise is not required under RISCA to be a regulated care service (we do not provide personal care), we are committed to operating to regulated-service standards and, within these standards, follow CIW guidelines for recruitment and management of staff.

Our Vision

To give young care leavers every possible opportunity to succeed post-18. To help them develop in confidence through access to individualised skills and education programmes that offer a secure pathway into independent living. By employing inspirational and passionate staff who are keen to make a difference, we will work to ensure our young people have both the practical skills and the emotional maturity to live independently by making sound decisions about their lives, both present and future.
